What causes dry, peeling, chapped lips with an occasional cold sore. Have had it for 2 months?

I have been to the Doctor twice and he has been treating it as cold sores but nothing is working. The rash goes about a half an inch above and below my upper and lower lips. My lips are dry and painful. Lip balms relieve the the dryness and I put vasiline on them at night. the dr first prescribed Alebra....and after 10 days valtrex....nothing is working. drink lots of water to hydrate your body.. there is a lip balm by a company called Jordan Essentials I use and swear helps better than anything else i have tried.. i put on all day. Most people use drying type things for herpes, and it hurts.. i found if i moisten and use the lip balm, healed faster , and didn't hurt half as much. don't know if this helps you, but, it is natural. and couldn't hurt.. If your doctor can't figure out, you got me... the lips are a good gauge to tell us if we are hydrated or not i was told as a child.. i go by that.. good luck..What causes dry, peeling, chapped lips with an occasional cold sore. Might be a different form of herpes than what he's treating you for(thats what cold sores are). Or a hormone imbalance.
