How can i prevent dry chapped lips?

How can you prevent dry chapped lips? Is it lack of vitamins like vitamin c or something? How can i prevent dry chapped lips?
I don't think it's a lack of vitamins...sometimes it happens...i know I have chapped lips quite frequently.

Okay tonight before you go to bed get a good amount of lip balm (not vaseline...vaseline tends to dry out your lips once you wash it off)...and slather it all over your lips. Go to sleep...preferably in a position that wont rub the lip balm off.

When you wake up...if you use a scrub...gently run the scrub over your lips to...if not when you dry your face with a flannel/towel rub your lips GENTLY...and that should remove all the dry skin...

then before you put on your makeup...put on some more lip balm to makeup for what you lost...and keep reapplying during the day.

Do this everyday and it should work.

Some people say to get a toothbrush in the morning and lightly 'brush' your moisturised lips...but i think thats a bit unnecessary if youve got a flannel handy.

hope it works and you have a fab pucker in then end!

p.s- I use carmex...trust me...that stuff is AMAZING!How can i prevent dry chapped lips?
Here are the chapped lips causes and their remedies:

Licking your lip.

It's a myth that licking your lips helps to prevent lips to be chapped. On the other hand, it worsen the condition. It may provide temporary relief (like for a minute or two) but later it may cause even a drier lips, or worse, cracked lips. The saliva will momentarily apply moisture but will then evaporate and leave the lips drier than before. Furthermore, saliva contains digestive enzymes that will not do sore lips any good. If it has been a habit, try apply something bitter or distasteful on the lips to remind and prevent yourself from licking. After some time, you won't have the habit of licking again ;)

Sensitive to toothpaste.

Toothpaste(this also applies to mouthwash, chewing gum and candy) contains chemical such as flavoring agents that can cause chapped lips to those who are allergic or sensitive to them. Futhermore, toothpaste with tartar-control can dry the lips even more. So choose your toothpaste wisely or you can also brush with baking soda as an alternative. You might be surprise to know that using baking soda also helps to whiten the teeth and prevent cavities as well. Also, if you prefer a more traditional method, Neem twigs can also be used for brushing teeth.

Deficiency of vitamin B complex and iron.

Food high in vitamin B complex are whole-grain products, milk, meat, eggs, cheese and peas and food high in iron are liver, kidneys and meats. So make sure you get enough of them.
I don't really think it's due to lack of vitamins but I don't think it would hurt to take a supplement. A more immediate solution would be to gently exfoliate your lips to get rid of the dry skin by putting some Vaseline or moisturiser onto your lips and gently rub them with a cloth. Then apply a layer of lip salve or if you want the most effective tool I've ever found - Blistex Relief Cream! It's a miracle product and I intend to be buried with a shed load of the stuff! It's really nice and minty, lasts for ages and can be applied under or over make up. It does make your lips go white if you put too much on but it soon sinks in and within a few hours you will feel the difference. Hope it works :D
Very very gently, rub your toothbrush over your lips when your brush your teeth in the morning or use a lip scrub (you can make one easy peasy: just mix equal parts granulated sugar with equal amounts of vaseline) or you can buy one.

The straight after apply moisturiser or lip balm (not vaseline, it protects your lips but doesn' actually moisturise them)

Then before you go outside just put some vaseline on to protect it from the wind and the cold. Try not to lick your lips too much either because that also drys your lips out.

If you want to go all out then apply this to your lips like you would lip balm:

:]
Dry chapped lips are normal in cold weather - get a vaseline chapstick and apply several times a day.

If you have red cracks at the side of lips your doctor/GP might test you for Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Get a toothbrush and wet it a little bit. Rub over your lips to exfoliate them. Then pat them dry and add a lip balm of your choice.

Makes your lips super smooth.
